"Lost" star Matthew Fox saddles up for country life

On the heels of his first-ever Emmy nomination and his much-buzzed-about departure from television after 18 years, Matthew Fox is finally getting lost.

Together with his wife, Margherita, and their two children, the 44-year-old actor is settling into a 10-acre ranch in Oregon -- a world away from his former life shooting the series in the Aloha state. He discussed his Emmy nomination, his plans for a post-"Lost" future and, of course, that final episode.

AN EMMY NOM AT LONG LAST! ARE YOU FEELING VINDICATED?

Fox: I had no idea the awards were being announced that day, but it's very nice to be recognized. I thought the show had a really great season, especially with expectations being so enormous. I think that's really saying something. I'm just looking forward to partying with the cast and raising a glass to the show.

THE SERIES FINALE MET MIXED REVIEWS AMONG FANS AND CRITICS. WHAT'S BEEN YOUR RESPONSE?

Fox: Obviously, the show left room for interpretation when the white light poured through. I don't pay attention to how it was received. Damon (Lindelof, an executive producer) told me the ending two months prior and I was extremely moved. I thought it was absolutely beautiful.

DR. JACK SHEPHARD WAS ESSENTIALLY THE SHOW'S "EVERYMAN" CHARACTER. HOW DIFFICULT WAS IT CHANNELING SUCH AN ICONIC ROLE?

Fox: I put a lot of myself into him, so it was tremendously emotional. He started as the hero of the show and we thought the audience would be bored out of their minds if he were the knight in shining armor all the time. We wanted to take the first four years and destroy him. So, that's what we did. And in the end, Jack redeemed himself before he could move on; I think that's why I was nominated. It has more to do with Jack than anything I was doing for six years.

WHAT DID THE SHOW'S FIRST EMMY WIN IN 2005 FOR OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES MEAN TO YOU?

Fox: It meant that when the show won, a whole bunch of people jumped on the bandwagon that shouldn't have. To be honest, people felt like they were missing out, so they came, tested it and left. Then it was perceived that the show took a turn for the worst, and it wasn't. They weren't ever going to be "Lost" fans.

YOU HAVE SAID THAT "LOST" WILL BE YOUR FINAL AFFAIR WITH TELEVISION. REALLY?

Fox: I've done 300 hours of television. I've spent 12 years operating between two characters -- six years on "Party of Five" and six years on "Lost" -- and I'm at a point in my career where I want more flexibility. I want to call my own shots: when I'm working and when I'm not. It doesn't have anything to do with snobbery. Some of the best writing is on television right now.

IF YOU COULD STEP INTO THE CHARACTER OF ANY OF YOUR FELLOW LEAD ACTOR NOMINEES, COMEDY OR DRAMA, WHO WOULD IT BE?

Fox: Michael C. Hall's role in "Dexter" would be very interesting. To play a serial killer in a lead role, that's pretty cool!

Josh Harris: "This has not been easy"

In anticipation of tonight’s episode of Deadliest Catch — in which friends and family say goodbye to Phil Harris — the captain’s son Josh Harris spoke to EW today about missing his dad, the outpouring from fans, and how he and his brother, Jake, hope to buy the Cornelia Marie.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You said on The Tonight Show that you are trying to raise millions of dollars so you and your brother can buy the other half of the Cornelia Marie. Have you set up some sort of fund in Phil’s name? Fans may want to help out.
JOSH HARRIS: Not yet. I really don’t know how to go about this stuff, and I really don’t want to depend on our fans to help us. I’m hard-headed. I’m trying to figure all of this out. I want to be able to do it on my own. My old man got the boat on his own. I’m just going to check out a couple of avenues and if that doesn’t work, we’ll go a different route. The last thing I want to do is beg for help from complete, utter strangers.

Talk about the outpouring of support from fans.
It’s been quite different. A lot of people will come up to me who have never seen the show, or they just started watching, and they are in a state of shock. They don’t even know the name of the boat. They just know the name of the captain who passed away. Everybody wants to give you hugs, give their condolences, tell you their stories. They try to comfort you in every which way. I’m very thankful for all the people who genuinely care. They don’t know anything about me or my brother or our situation but they really care. It’s really bizarre to me.

How do you feel about the way the show’s been edited this season?
I think they have done a wonderful job, I’m actually kind of shocked. I have not been able to watch tonight’s episode. I’ve had the copy of it sitting on my table for five days now. I stare at it. I saw the commercials for it a couple of nights ago, and I just broke down and lost it. My biggest fear is crying in public, and that was in public so it f—king sucked. I think the story is being told in the best way possible. The old man wanted to go out big. The only different way he had in mind was to be 70 years old, popping about 50 Viagras and having a 21-year-old Vegas hooker. That was the original way he wanted to go. But I think this way will suffice for him.

Leno showed the clip where you heard your dad say he loved him. What was that like to watch?
That f—ed me up a little bit. It’s a process, I’m working through it. He was pissed. He thought he was a failure and that he f—ed up. That irritated me so much. He’s such a good guy, and he had such a big heart. To be in the last moments of your life and think you are a failure, just broke my heart. It absolutely crushed me because he wasn’t a failure at all. He produced two good kids and did the best job he could with the cards he was dealt. We weren’t born rich. Everything we’ve got, we earned. It’s not like Discovery has handed us a house full of money. I think I got $1,000 and a fruit basket that I have never seen. They say they sent it!

Did you ever think about telling the cameras not to film that hotel room shouting match you had with Jake?
Oh you didn’t see the half of it, sweetheart. There was more, all right. They chose not to show it. They showed Jake leave nice and casual out of the room. It didn’t happen quite that way.

What’s your relationship like with Time Bandit captain Johnathan Hillstrand?
He’s been such a huge support system for me and my brother. I can’t thank him enough. This has not been an easy task by any means. I’ve been in shock and so numb through this whole thing. Everybody has been kind and gracious and patient. It’s nuts. I don’t know what to say right now except this whole f—ing thing is crazy. I miss my dad a lot. I don’t know how you are supposed to feel in a situation like this. It sucks. I lost my hero, my best friend, my buddy. I don’t know what to do about that.

What is the future of the show?
I can tell you one thing: that I’m pretty sure me and Jake will be battling next year. What weapons come out between the two of us, I don’t know. Who gets the first black eye, I can’t tell you. What I do know is we will be back in full force one way or another, hell or high water. I can see myself making sure that the boat sticks around — whatever it takes to make sure that f—er is running and my guys are employed, I will be right there every step of the way.

Maybe you can start tweeting from the boat.
Some of the guys at Discovery are really into tweeting. I don’t even know what this tweet thing is about. Apparently, you’re supposed to tweet “I’m taking a poop now” or “I just used three toilet tissues.” Sig Hansen [captain of the Northwestern] apparently is a tweet master. But Sig also has a mullet and thinks he can go on Dancing With the Stars. I’ll leave that sh– to the Norwegians and people with mullets. And Kim Kardashian.

Back when the producers first came to you about doing a reality show based on your lives, what did you think?
My initial reaction went a little something like this: “Uh, cool.” They put the camera on me, and I didn’t know what to do. “Am I walking funny? Do I need to do my hair? Do I look at the camera?” And they’d go, “Don’t look at the camera, look at me.” So then you find yourself talking and moving your hands really oddly. They just kind of freely float around. It’s kind of like a Ricky Bobby thing.”I don’t know what to do with my hands. The car was real fast and, uh….” That’s about how I felt.

Did you worry about cussing too much on camera?
F— yeah, but I gave up worrying. It’s how I talk. I don’t have a really good mute button, and it really sucks when I’m around children. I go do school appearances and talk to kids about drugs and stuff, and I seem to always drop the f-bomb by accident. The little kids will look at me and say “He just said f—.” And I’d be like, “Sh– you are right!” Then they go, “He just said sh–!” I’d say, “Dude, I need to get the f— out of here.” You wanna talk about a problem. But I got a good heart. I try really hard.

Blake Lively and Leighton Meester kissing eachother on set...

Still hard at work in the City of Lights, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were spotted on the set of "Gossip Girl" in Paris, France on Thursday (July 8).

Both clad in their typical flashy attire, the Serena van der Woodsen sweetie and her Blair Waldorf co-star shared a light kiss on the cheek as the cameras caught all of the action.

Along with filming season four of their hit CW show, Blake and Leighton have also spent time checking out the offerings of Paris Fashion Week.

While both ladies attended the much-hyped Chanel runway show, Miss Lively also made time to turn up for a highly praised Christian Dior catwalk exhibit over the past week.

Jane Lynch confirms engagement!

Glee's Jane Lynch has confirmed that she is engaged.

In January, the New York Times’ Carpetbagger blog reported that she and longtime girlfriend, psychologist Lara Embry, were tying the knot in May. But her rep shot down the report, telling Access Hollywood that “Jane is currently in a relationship and there is no related news to that relationship.”

But at a Glee event Saturday at the Grove in Los Angeles, Lynch, 49, told UsMagazine.com the reports are correct.

"Yes, yes, it's true!" she told Us.

She said she doesn't know when they'll wed.

"We don't have any plans at all yet," she added. "But I have a ring and everything. We're very happy and very excited!"

Ed Westwick is Using His Fame to Flirt with Rich Kids

ED Westwick is using his fame to flirt with rich kids.

The Gossip Girl actor — who plays Chuck Bass on the hit show — is widely rumored to be dating costar Jessica Szohr, but he admits he likes chatting up pretty female fans to pass the time.

“We are always shooting on the Upper East Side, so often when any girls come over to watch, they are from that demographic — y’know, rich kids,” Ed said.

“If they were like the characters on the show they would have quite a lot to live up to — but if they are like that, I’d like them to call me!”

Scott Porter's 'Glee' Regret: 'I Should Have Gone For It'

Scott Porter scored in primetime on Friday Night Lights and also has a juicy role on Syfy's Caprica. On the big screen, the 30-year-old recently helped Dear John end Avatar's run as the number one film at the box office.

Now he's teaming up with Alexis Bledel in The Good Guy. Porter also learned about the stock market playing a junior Gordon Gekko.

Watching Wall Street tumble.
"We didn't want to paint a negative picture of everybody on Wall Street, but egomaniacs do exist and my character is definitely one of them. The world's been paved with gold for them for a while and now it has all come crashing down. Bear Stearns collapsed while we were filming. I was actually on a real Wall Street floor when it happened. The mood was very somber. These traders were so used to kind of being proactive, going out and getting things done, and they suddenly became very reactive. It was trippy. Oliver Stone's original Wall Street doesn't apply in this economy. You can't watch the old Gordo Gekko because he doesn't exist right now."

Taking down the biggest grossing movie of the year.
"I mean, they've all gotta fall at some point and I'm happy to be part of the film that did it to Avatar at the weekend box office. It was just a very cool experience to be the bad guy in Dear John and I tell everybody that I out-badded Giovanni Ribisi in Avatar. Actually, I went to middle school with Jamie Linden, who wrote the script for Dear John, so to see it do well for one of my good, good friends was awesome."

He could have stayed in high school.
"Oh man, I really want to kick myself in the face for Glee because I kind of did the stupid actor thing where you go, 'Okay, I'm at a certain point in my life now where I only want to play this guy or that guy.' When Glee was casting, I thought, 'I'm too old to be a student. I need to stop playing high-school kids.' Then it came out and Ryan Murphy was like, 'We've got a bunch of adults playing kids, but we don't care, that's our show.' Cory Monteith is X amount of years old and he's playing a high schooler. So I was like, 'Dang it, I should have gone for it.'"

Ain't too proud to beg for another chance.
"Now I'm, like, at the back door knocking, 'Can I please come in and play on the Glee set because I beat box, I sing, I dance.' If music's gonna be involved, that's my thing. I got my start in the Off-Broadway cast of Altar Boyz, so I'm like pitching ideas daily to Glee. I think it's such a unique show. God, I love it. So there you have my regrets. I've laid them out on the table."

Turning out the Friday Night Lights.
"It kind of felt like Lost knowing that it was going to be over. Lost was kind of this aimless ship that was wandering in the open seas. When they decided to do the final season it finally got a compass and now it's driving toward a big finish. When you know that the finish line is coming up, as opposed to this nebulous kind of, 'Are we gonna get cancelled?' You can actually give the fans of the show true closure. I think that's the best thing for Friday Night Lights. Give everybody a great goodbye."

Wait a minute...this jock's a geek!
"I've played a range of characters, but nothing so out there as Nestor, the computer nerd-terrorist in Caprica. How I got that part was pure serendipity. I was a presenter at the Saturn Awards last year and I saw the Battlestar people and said, 'I'm a huge fan of the show.' And they said they were huge fans of Friday Night Lights. Two weeks later I got a call and they offered me the role in Caprica and I didn't even audition. It's a pretty great role and you're gonna see Nester pop up a lot. And it was awesome to work with Polly Walker. She's phenomenal."
