No one can dispute that Natalie Portman has a firm grip on her own career. She’s carefully mixing blockbuster fare with indie films on her CV, has expanded into directing and has her own production company. It’s for that outfit – Handsome Charlie Films – that’s she planning a new comedy, Best Buds.

According to the gang at Pajiba, she’s developing Jamie Denbo’s script into an interesting take on the stoner road trip genre, focusing not on joint-loving lads on a mission but spliff-happy ladies who are headed to their friend’s wedding with the intent to save her with the miraculous power of weed.

Portman will star in the film as well as producing, but it’s still early days for the project as it needs a director and she’s busy with other jobs, like working on Thor and planning Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.
